Liz Life Guru

I’m Liz Reed, a licensed psychotherapist, author, and chef. I have a long history of working in addiction and the mental health field. From addiction facilities to psychiatric units and private practice. I’m also in recovery from alcohol for the past 20 years. Liz Life Guru is a podcast designed to help people with mental health and addiction issues. This is an action-oriented show that helps the listener understand the dynamics of their issues. This is achieved through education, personal experience, and science-based evidence. Broken down in honest easy-to-understand language. I feel that there is a method to “the madness”, and that a good laugh can cure many ills. There is hope for everyone with the proper support and guidance. I will help you to create a journey through life that is your own, one that you enjoy, not one you have to white knuckle through. Life should be ever evolving and interesting. Don’t stay stuck. You’ll be able to relate to the many stories and descriptions of how mental illness, trauma, and addiction shape who we are. I’m here to make sense of the senseless. I’m a problem solver and a life changer. Join me for a unique look at what’s bugging you. Namaste

Making Amends AA

Wednesday Feb 26, 2025

Wednesday Feb 26, 2025

What does making amends mean anyway?  in AA it is a way of saying I am sorry for my actions while in addiction. For many saying I’m sorry or taking accountability for your actions is hard to do. We look at it as a character flaw or a weakness. Whether in AA or struggling with your past actions, making amends is an easy way to free yourself from your past. In this podcast we investigate how to approach our own ego and navigate letting go and saying I’m sorry.

Addiction and Manipulation

Thursday Dec 12, 2024

Thursday Dec 12, 2024

One of the biggest parts of addiction is the manipulation of the addict toward family and friends. This is a chemical reaction from the brain and also a learned behavior. Many people who find themselves trapped in the life of the addict have no idea how to get out.
In this podcast, we will examine how the mind works for the addict—the need for instant gratification and the manipulation that goes along with it. I'll help you to recognize and work your way through to a better outcome for you and the addict. So, stay tuned and get out your pen……I'm here to help!

This is a shit show.
This is a time to heal. For many of us who did not vote for Trump, we were blindsided and sickened by the results. This is a time for feeling your feelings and not for healing. In this show, we will go over how we all feel. You’ll better understand that it will take time to make sense of this. We simply can't just move on. We need a plan and some sort of understanding. My hope hashing some of this out will help in the long run. Take the time to listen, vent, and talk.

Having a child is a bigger decision than getting married. Who you have a child with is far more important than who you marry. In my travels and relationships, I decided that having a child wasn’t part of my life decision. This was further complicated by years of problems from endometriosis. Deciding and being ok with having or not having children can be complicated and stressful. In this podcast, we will review the dynamics and thoughts leading to this difficult decision.  So, tune in and pay attention this could be you.
