Liz Life Guru
I’m Liz Reed, a licensed psychotherapist, author, and chef. I have a long history of working in addiction and the mental health field. From addiction facilities to psychiatric units and private practice. I’m also in recovery from alcohol for the past 20 years. Liz Life Guru is a podcast designed to help people with mental health and addiction issues. This is an action-oriented show that helps the listener understand the dynamics of their issues. This is achieved through education, personal experience, and science-based evidence. Broken down in honest easy-to-understand language. I feel that there is a method to “the madness”, and that a good laugh can cure many ills. There is hope for everyone with the proper support and guidance. I will help you to create a journey through life that is your own, one that you enjoy, not one you have to white knuckle through. Life should be ever evolving and interesting. Don’t stay stuck. You’ll be able to relate to the many stories and descriptions of how mental illness, trauma, and addiction shape who we are. I’m here to make sense of the senseless. I’m a problem solver and a life changer. Join me for a unique look at what’s bugging you. Namaste

Do I need therapy, or can I figure this out on my own? Getting therapy doesn’t mean that you are weak or unable to deal with your life. It means that things have gotten to be too much, and you are stuck trying to find a way out. Family and friends can do their best to help, but they are emotionally involved. Therapy requires a person who is not connected to you and your life. An outside view of what’s going on. In this podcast, we will go over the dynamics that come into play to seek therapy. As I always say “ If you could fix it yourself, you would”. Lets explore when its time for help... it’s not a dirty word. It’s a cry for help…

“I have boundaries !!” I hear that all the time, but what does it really mean? For the most part, people who use phrases like this often come off as offensive. When you decide to use boundaries in relationships it's something you need to keep to yourself. This is your opinion and decision. We have all read many self-help books and consider ourselves armchair therapists. These statements, words, and phrases are often misused. In this podcast, we will explore how these words are often overused in the way we communicate with others. Proper placement of these clinical terms is helpful and necessary. Sit back and relax and learn about boundaries.

Low self-esteem demons. Can anyone say anything worse to you? Could you think of any worse flaw to have? We all live in fear that we may have low self-esteem. How do we even tackle obtaining a dynamic powerful concept of self? This podcast will look at the inhibitors that create low self-esteem. How to recognize this within yourself and work on fixing it. Managing how we talk to ourselves is one technique. How you talk to yourself about yourself may be very negative. If this is the case, it can result in low self-esteem and self-loathing. Be prepared to dig deep into your inner consciousness to find the answers you need to understand why we do what we do. Life is indeed better when we expel our own demons. Namaste.

Like many of my patients and followers, I also dealt with addiction. I was a functioning alcoholic for many years. What started with panic attacks turned into using alcohol as my medication. Through this long and painful process, I found sobriety 21 years ago. In this episode, we will look into my path from addiction to sobriety. I’m telling my own story to help you or someone you may know find their way out. Often, we are not sure if the addiction came first or the mental health issues. This was the case for me, and many others like me. In this episode, we will also look at what drives us to self-medicate and what could be standing in the way. Life is indeed greater, happier, and easier on the other side… Be well.

Are you aware of your caloric deficit that enables weight loss? A deficit of 500 calories a day times 7 days in a week equals 1 pound of weight loss. That doesn’t seem like much, but it adds up fast. In this podcast, we will investigate calorie deficit and how menopause influences it. A yogurt or a mini candy bar can be a few calories that cancel your deficit. We will look at your options and how the calories you consume matter, but it doesn’t have to be painful. Enjoy, your weight loss, and never call it a diet!

The Internet is supposed to be a place of information gathering and support. We pay our bills online and we occasionally post about our lives. This open honesty should not invite a keyboard terrorist to verbally eviscerate you. Haters and cruel statements can be extremely challenging. We know that they probably wouldn’t say this to your face. How can humans talk to other strangers in this way? We will go over the hate and stress of this world that has led to this angry nation. Can’t we be nice? Please…..?
